Filter Question?? Thanks

I have really been doing my research, and I know that cleaning the filter is very important. What I can't find a straight answer to is how often do you clean the filter, and how do you do it so that you don't harm the fish??

Only clean filter parts with cold water and frequency is somewhat as needed. Cold water won't remove as much of the beneficial bacteria that's collected on the filter parts in comparison to hot water. Just be ready for your hands and fingers to get cold.

It really depends on a lot of things so any rule of thumb may not hold a lot of merit. I usually go about every 3 - 4 months, but that's what works with the types of fish I have, and the types of filters I have.
