I got another couple of kuhli loaches the other day, and the girl at the LFS asked me what else I had in the tank. I told her community with some silver dollars, assorted tetras, and a couple of clown loaches. She asked if I really wanted the kuhlis as they wouldn't last long because the clown loaches would eat them!

I also had (at a different LFS) when I got my glass catfish get told that I'd better be careful becuase the clown loaches loved eating glass cats.

I haven't had any trouble with my loaches at all, have had the odd fish dissapear and the remains usually end up in the loaches lair, but they might have looked a bit off colour the day before or skulking in the corner so who's to say if they died first or whether the loaches took them because they weren't quite up to scratch. But I've never actually noticed any just dissapear.

Anybody had any trouble with their clowns attacking other fish? (mind you one of these LFS's also told me that Silver Dollars can turn nasty overnight and kill and eat everything in the tank, so to be careful:hmm3grin2orange: )

I have heard of large SDs eating small tetra sized fish.
I have never heard of a clown loach eating other fish,I have heard of them being aggressive when spawning but thats it.
I have also never had them.Yet!lol
Not sure if you have read this yet but every other article I have read says the same thing.

I have one that is pretty agressive toward the cherry barbs. I think this is probably due to him being kept single, which is why I am going to be giving him away soon. He is usually most agressive during feeding.

I've never known Clowns to be aggressive...they will develop a "pecking order" among themselves, but I don't think you need to worry about them eating other fish.:ssmile:

I've never heard of clowns being aggressive towards other fish. My clown loaches are only mean to each other during feeding. I added 3 more small peppered cories on Monday and they are all doing fine. The loaches do not bother them.

Just keep an eye and if you see any aggression just remove them.

Never once had a silver dollar even get lippy with each other much less other species. My loaches got into an agrument twice in two years that ended as soon as I fed them.

These people are better off just cleaning the tanks and saying nothing from all the bad information they give.

Thanks guys!

I've never had any problems with mine, but I wanted to check that the general concensus was the same as me! LOL

You do wonder sometimes about how they come to the conclusions they do about fish. I'm with you Hobbs, never had ANY trouble from ANY of my SD's letalone have them "attack and kill and eat" everything in the tank. And nobody else that's posted about dollars has been about them being aggresive, but I wanted to check about the clowns.

Cheers guys!thumbs2:
