I've been wanting to breed my Gold's for quite a while now and so i researched alot on breeding conditions and breeding tanks etc. so i set up a 10 gallon tank, covered the bottom of the tank just enough that the fish will not see a reflection. I then put in a heater and a soft intank filter.. i'm going to the store to pick up some fake plants to put on the surface to help build the bubble nest.. is there anything else that i should do before i put my female in and let her settle in for a week or two?

Hello, we just discovered after following the directions on this site for breeding gouramis we have several hundred babies. You could benefit from some anacharis, not fake, and a piece of driftwood. The male actually built the bubble nest while the female hid. We gave her two weeks to get used to her place. Covering 3 sides of the tank with black construction paper. Feeding her frozen shrimp.

Hey, I'm also trying to get my golden gouramis to breed. I did just about the same as you regarding the breeding aquarium setup. Right now I have my female in place acclimatizing to the tank. She's been in there for about a week. I read that you should wait until she's gravid before introducing the male. Does anyone know roughly how long this process takes? Because right now she seems to be normal size - no signs of any bulges. And can I still introduce the male even if she's not gravid? Maybe having him around will be a trigger for her to produce eggs?

Putting a coffee cup cut in half on the surface with floating plants around it works for me.The male brings plants up to the bubble nest most of the day.then chases her up near the nest to spawn.hope this helps you.
