Save the Leatherback turtle

This beautiful animal is the largest turtle and the 3rd largest reptile on earth. I am fortunate enough for these gentle giants to visit my country as one of the largest nesting sites in the world. My friends and I patrol beaches regularly during nesting season, protecting the laying mothers and covering nests. We also ensure that as many babies as possible make it to the water safely. This majestic creature is critically endangered and we must all do our part, as citizens of earth to prevent such a disastrous loss from ever ocurring. Unfortunately, there are countries like Malaysia where little or no government initiative to do so exists. Eggs are routinely harvested, leading to very small numbers of baby turtles actually surviving long enough to see the ocean. Please, we must all do our best to save this priceless part of our planet from being lost forever.

We saw some turtles birthing like that when we were in Aruba for our honeymoon. Quite the site to see.

It is truly an awesome event to witness and to be a part of it, is wonderful. Knowing that each clutch of eggs you save, and every baby turtle you protect as it makes its way to the water may lead to the species being saved, is in indescribable feeling.

Great job on doing ur part i think we all need to do something to this affect. I mean i mean my town just cut like 5 trees down so i went a founds seeds of acorns walnuts and wisteria seeds and planted them and then my parents took me and we replanted them in the woods. Ha working on another walnut two more wisteria and about 5 lilacs

They are awesome animals indeed. The male leatherback never returns to land once entering the ocean as a hatchling. Females come back to the exact beach they hatched on to nest.
