Can anyone identify this guy? Out in the front yard yesterday.

It looks like some kind of toad!
I think its got too many bumps to be a frog!
I am no expert though!Maybe an American Brown toad!

Yup, I agree... see them everywhere around here. They have quite the geographical range.

I don't see them very often but at night I can hear a lot of calls. Is this the animal I am hearing?

Frogs are sleeker with large hind legs and moist smooth skin, Toads usually have dry bumpy skin and smaller hind legs.

Would it be appropriate to keep them in a terrarium? Maybe a 55 gallon or is that not a good idea?

My neighbor keeps one in a 30 gallon and it's been fine for a few months now. I bring them live insects (crickets, grasshoppers, slugs) all the time and it's a very good eater. They're nocturnal, so keep that mind. A nicely setup 55 is quite appropriate IME.

That's a common brown/garden toad. We have tons of those around here. My mother in law acutally has a bunch of them that hibernate in her garden over the winter. In the spring, you can actually see them dig their way out from under the soil.
