View Full Version : Water too hard?

Hi everyone i have a snowball pleco and his tail is not looking so good. I thought it may have been from my common pleco attacking him but i removed him and it doesn't seem to be getting better, maybe even worse. I have a koi in the tank with him so maybe its him? Idk. Also snowball pleco's prefer soft water and mine is rather hard... PH is too high as well.. Could these water conditions be doing this to his tail? If so, does anyone know how to soften water easily? Could it be fin rot? Maybe the koi? Please respond soon so can make adjustments i dont want him to die.. Thank you.

Fill the tank with driftwood... it naturally lowers your ph and softens the water... there are many different filter media bags that will soften your water also. Avoid any type of coral in your tank also (raises ph and hardens water). Hope this helps, snowballs are cool plecos! :fish:

Thank you so much! I prefer to go with a more natural way of doing it. :)

drift wood is also a supplement to their diet.
