Well, a few weeks ago i bought a random plant. It has big leaves, and it had little root things coming off with brown round circles on the end. The brown circles are now new plants, still attached to the original, and the new ones have roots.

CHRONA, WHAT DO I DO? do i slice off the new ones or can i just leave them.

Sounds like a fern to me (probably java fern). Just leave it alone for a while until it has grown some. That's one of the ways ferns propagates. Gently run your fingers through it every once in a while and if it detaches then it is ready to be planted. Make sure not to bury the rhizome in gravel though, or it'll rot.

Were they the ones on sale at Super Pet, because it's a type of Java Fern. Great little plants, bought 2 clumps myself :)

yeah, super pet. Its definitely not regular java fern. Its stringier and taller. I think its a variation like abbeys_mom said

maybe. mines bigger, and the leaves area attached to stringy stems, and have the brown beads at the end.

I saw from your tank pic that your java ferns have the same black spots on them that mine do. The plants in my 20 gallon have those black spots but not the ones in my 30 gallon.

Make sure the black spots are symmetrical. Otherwise it's just decaying plants lol. It sounds like your 20g has better lighting/nutrients than the 30g. Plants propagate under good conditions.

When I sorted my Java Fern Bunches, I attached the nice looking ones to the driftwood in my 10g and the ugly ones went in the Betta tank. They were in rough shape when I bought them. Our local Super Pet is awful when it comes to plants. I always thought it was my care that killed them, but I know now their bad stock doesn't help :)

Great. Another reminder of junkie plants.

I just met you guys on this forum, have not really contributed nearly as much as I have received, but where I come from, this sort of statement would get one taunted beyond belief!!! :hmm3grin2orange:
