I was doing some research on cichlid compatibility for my 75g community and I found this list...
I like all these fish, it has some pretty fish, some cool fish, some really, really weird fish... but it seems like way too much for a 75g tank.
Now I'm familiar with the concept of overstocking, but doesn't this seem like a lot? (it's from the cichlid recipe), especially since some of these fish are recommended 128g fish... (the common names are for my own reference)
1 trio Nimbochromis-giraffe cichlid
* 1 trio Placidochromis- deepwater hap
* 2 trios Psuedotropheus- Demisoni cichlid
* 1 quartet (1m/3f) Labeotropheus-yellow lab
* 1 trio Sciaenochromis- electric blue
* 1 trio Cynotilapia- afra cichlid
* 2 Julidochromis (larger species)-marlieri cichlid
* 1 Eretmodus- goby cichlids
* 1 trio Dimidiochromis-
* 1 to 3 Synodontis Catfish
1 large Plecostomus- snowball pleco

Whats the Filter?

It's overstocked but many people overstock african cichlids to deal with the aggression. What I am more concerned about (assuming the tank has awesome filtration) is the mixture of the mbuna and the haps. The Nimbochromis and Dimidiochromis will get too big for a 75g too.
Overall, I like the individual species of fish but I do not think all of them are appropriate for a 75g, and I don't think the mix is appropriate.
I would also limit it to a single syno, not a trio.

Whats the Filter?
the filter is a hagen aquaclear 110
if I leave out the dimidiochromis and nimbochomis trios it should be alright, right? (inner voice: no)
or should I go with a all mbuna, or all hap tank?
oh, yeah, and limit the synos

An AC 110 is not enough overfiltration for that stocking list imo. I would choose either haps or mbuna. From my experience, it's not pretty for the haps when the mbuna start reaching maturity.
The good news is there are a ton of cool mbuna and haps so there are still many species for you to choose from.

I would get an XP3 to add filtration to the AC110. You are def under filtered for that list

I just want you to know that I didn't make this list, I got it from [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]... I thought it was crazy too (and I haven't started stocking yet) I just wanted to make sure
even their list for 55g seems way overstocked for a 75

I just checked that site out and all of their stocking recommendations seem too overstocked for me. I don't think I'd go with a single one of those plans.
I do like the cookie cutter setups from cichlid-forum. They're still overstocked, so I would upgrade filtration, but the fish species selections are MUCH more appropriate.

1. I am going to add a penguin Biowheel 350
2. revised stocking (mbuna):
cynotilapia afra x3
labidochromis pearlmutt x5
psuedotropheous saulosi x4
metriaclima msobo x3
this is from cookie cutter, and I'm pretty sure this is what I'm going to end up using...
BTW, with you all the way lab_rat, thanks for the site!

I recommend doubling your msobo population (1 male:5 females). I find them to be rather conspecific-aggressive once they attain 3"-3.5". Female vs female aggression can be particularly brutal.

that list is a disaster. make your own custom theme tank-you will be happier. try a all mbuna or all haplichrome tank, perhaps with a synodontis cat thrown in. my "overstocked " tank has [14] 3-4 inch fish and it's a 55gal tank with 2 HOB aquaclear 110's for filtration.
