My parrot fish seems to be TERRIFIED of me and any movement outside the tank lol. I've had him (or her) for a week now, but havn't seen it eat because of it being scared. I look at it and it bolts to its hiding spot.
Anyway to reduce this lol?

Maybe it needs another parrot tankmate?

No room lol. 55 gallon tank with a parrot, angel, gourami bichir and peacock eel.

Get a mask! lol
You are going to have to spend more time in front of your tank and become familiar to your fish.

My tank is in my room, where I am pretty much all the time when I'm home (tv, bed, computer, ps3, guitars...no need to leave lol)...my tank is right next to my computer so I'm pretty much always here. None of my other fish are afraid of me, just the parrot lol

No, I actually got it right after they were put in. There were all dyed ones in tere (green yellow and purple...sigh) i got the orange, but he was the smallest, maybe that has something to do with it. He is very territorial with his little corner. Only lets the eel over to it. Not the bichir, angel or gourami lol

I agree, I believe once your fish learns who you are, hell quit being shy. Fish CAN learn! Example, when I come home at night and turn on the hall light (not my bedroom light) my cichlids go NUTZ! They know when that light come on they're going to get fed!
Just spend more time in front of your tank and I suspect he'll come out more!

LOL.
He, or she, has been out a lot more today. Still runs when I come close, but I can look at him now! :hmm3grin2orange:
Getting somewhere. My angel ate from my hand today, gourami was doing some weird thing in the corner which I thought he was building a nest, and my stupid bichir as usual dug up my plants...sigh :fish2: lol

Dug up your plants eh? Hang a package of fish fry batter on the side of the tank, that's what I do!

Try Leaving the lights off for a few days... just let the tank get ambient light... he should be more comfortable in a "semi-dim" tank... then turn the lights on for only a few hours, adding an hour or so each day... he'll come around...

He probably is noticing how so much larger you are than he is, and hasn't yet figured out that you aren't a predator. I would suggest getting one of those food sticks and offering that to him in your fingers -- just hold it motionless in the tank and let him nibble on it. At first, he'll probably continue to hide, but if you're consistent, he might eventually realize this is food and not a threat, and gradually come out of his shell.
Their natural instincts are to shield themselves from any perceived threat. Give it time. As he gets to know you, he'll grow more comfortable. A week really isn't that long.
