the LFS today. lol
I was really surprised with what I found. The tanks were way below the standard they have regularly. Almost all of the goldfish tanks were cloudy, as was a molly tank. I found several floaters in the platy tank... And, to make it worse, they had a new 8" oscar in a 38G tall. I got the fish to turn around, and its tail liked about .25" from touching the back of the tank while its mouth was about to graze the front. ;[ The usually never have fish that are too big for the tank. In their defense, he is new, and is probably expected to sale quickly. But still, they needed him in a bigger tank. I also noticed the owner wasn't there like he usually is, so that probably explains the fish situation. I'm sure he will be VERY surprised when he gets back from where ever he went...
I looked at all the fish to try to narrow my choices down. I originally wanted larger fish because I got tired of the guppies I had, but now I think I want smaller fish. If I get a bigger fish, I feel like they don't have as much room to "explore." My 44G is lonely with just two peppered cories. lol I've got to get 4 more...
I need some opionons on tiger barbs... I really liked watching them today at the store. They sell small tigers for like $2 and bigger ones for I think $4. The bigger ones were old enough to sex. I was thinking 2M/6F? or 1M/7F?
What do you guys think of tigers? They will be the only fish in the tank besides 6 peppered cories...

With that many TBs you shouldn't have any trouble!
You could get more corys too.You have the room.
What other fish have you been thinking about that will not outgrow the tank?

Horrible LFS.....so many are just the same though...such a pity!
If you like Tigers I think they would be great if in a species specific tank (so to speak) with some cories and you get a good number of them...they are very active and entertaining! I just don't like their aggressive nature.

I'm just wondering what their personality is. I didn't really have time to watch them for 30 minutes.

Yep, read em.
I keep going back and forth between ideas. I'm thinking small community now, with calm fish.
Need peaceful fish for a 44G, and don't want it overstocked. Suggestions?

Quick question. I have decided to go for a small community for the 44G. I want a few different fish, but without overstocking. I want some livebearers, but don't want to deal with babies and the females being chased constantly.
Could I do an all-male tank? Or would the males fight with each other?
I'm thinking...
4 Male Guppies
2 Male Sailfin-Lyretail Mollies
2 Black Widow Tetras
3 Male Swordtails
6 Peppered Cories
Could a female Betta fit in anywhere, or would the Guppies be too tempting? Think thats too many fish (17) for a 44G?

Everyone has bad days. I caught mine in poor condition while the owners were not there, so I told them the next time I saw them.
I love tiger barbs, and mine share a tank with a crayfish. I tried corys, but the tigers ended up coralling them all in a cave...circling...waiting...all 10 of them like a pack of wolves. The cray is the perfect bottom feeder for a tiger barb tank, IMO, and a tiger tank is a great opportunity to see what these guys are all about.
I now have 12, evenly split. My school has 3 different sized fish in it, which looks cool IMO.
I just took two great videos I'm trying to put on youtube....Youtube is down for maintanence.

So, if I got 10 TBs, I'd still have enough room to get 4 more Cories for a total of 6?
On the TBs, should I go for 9F/1M, or 2M/8F? Or what is really a good ratio?

You can try the corys, but make sure you have a backup plan.
As far as the tigers go, I recomend getting 7 little ones to start. It's hard to sex them when they're small, and it's even harder to net specific fish, so don't worry about it - you'll get a decent mix. Once you're able to sex them, you can finish off the school by getting 3 more large females. The large females are important to add later, once the males mature. They'll keep things in check. My split is 6 and 6.

Thats the thing, I don't have a backup plan.
I have a 5G Hex, but I didn't think it was enough floorspace for 2 Cories. I could put them in there, but I figured it was too small. I planned for it to be a Betta home. If I got the TBs and it didn't work out, could the Cories live in there??

Also, if the Cories don't work out, what is a good bottom-feeder?
Not really into crayfish... I do like catfish though....
