Just curious to see lol. Are brackish bacteria in the filter media the same as freshwater? Theres only a mild salt content, but can't hurt to ask lol

Same family of bacteria

So if I take a freshwater seeded sponge and move it to brackish its a fully cycled tank then =D lol

It's the same family of bacteria but probably not exactly the same kind. I wouldn't try a quick cycle using media between brackish and freshwater systems.

I cycled a bw tank using seeded material from a fw tank.It went well and quickly. Not quite instant though.

They're close enough that they will perform the function while the correct bacteria takes hold. It won't be instantaneous and you should keep an eye on your parameters, but unless you're dealing with an already under-filtered tank, you can use the media for seeding.

I was thinking of making a heavily planted tank and then adding 2 figure 8 puffers lol. I'll throw a seeded sponge in then run a quick fishless, should be pretty fast haha. Lot less then a month lol

Not many plants like salt, what were you gonna try?Carefully consider wanting 2 fig 8s,they have a bad attitude toward there kin, most do anyway.Mine is getting along ok with a knight goby and they are a low salt needy fish as well.Come to think of it ,the stock list I have would look great with plants. That is a fig 8,knight goby and bumble bee gobys, all of which need very low salinity to do well.

Hmm ok. Maybe I'll do a goby tank. I love that dragon goby lol...As for plants, I havn't started researching really. Just wanted to see if you could seed the tank the same way.

I did the same three years ago and puff guys (GSP) doing fine. I just let the tank cycle for a few weeks. No problems.
