Don't forget to way up the pro's and cons of both, acrylic being flexible would probably need to be thicker, as well as the scratch factor, do a lot of research first.

Don't bother making a small DIY tank. It only starts to become cost-effective with large tanks. Didn't you say you could get a 40g for 25 bucks? The glass alone will cost more than that.

yeah, but i kinda want to make one.

I found a local ad where i guy had a MONSTROUS 55g with high tech equipment wanting to trade for a 10g set in any condition. Maybe i'll just wait for a good ad.

I found a ad for a 40g with a drilled bottom for 10$. Can you patch the holes or no?

you can patch it with a piece of glass and silicone.
Or you van use a bulkhead fitting and cap one end, preferably the end inside the tank. You will have to put a hole in your stand were the bulkhead fitting comes out the bottom of the tank.

acrylic is more.

Petsmart had 20g's with hood and light for 80$. I got one. Sucks because i paid 80$ for a 10g light 1 month ago, and for 3 bucks less i coulda got a free tank and hood.

I am transferring my 10g fish to the new 20g.

If anyone wants the 10g with tetra wood filter, heater, hood, 2 light incandescent light, and option of white clouds, flying fox, betta, and lamp. brichardi, PM me.

50$, or trade for canister filter

Not hear, acrylic is alot cheaper than glass, but you have to buy an 8x4 sheet of it, and you can buy smaller sizes of acrylic. But pound for pound acrylic is more expensive iguess.

You have to know how to perform stress calculations. Acrylic has to be thicker and sometimes has to be cross-braced to hold the weight/pressure of the water inside.

Patching a drilled hole is easy. You can do this with a 1/4" (or 1/8" depending on how big the hole is) piece of glass or plexiglass. Silicone it to the inside of the tank and the hole will be patched.

Ask if the bottom of the tank is tempered. If it is tempered and there is a breech in the glass, no matter if it is patched, it will not be strong enoungh to hold the wieght.
