Holy COOOOWW. Has anyone seen how expensive these guys are? Apparently, they were pretty much fished to near extinction in the wild, so breeder pairs sell for like a few grand! :O
Pretty fish though.
Same thing is happening with the galaxy rasboras. They are only found in a single region, and the population has dwindled due to massive overfishing.
Sad really.....

I didnt know people actually fished for plecos. I have seen pictures though, and they are really cool looking.

i found a local ad once for a guy getting rid of a zebra for free. Apparently killi's are getting extinct

several months ago, I ran across a picture of a zebra pleco and decided that I wanted to keep one because it was so beautiful. Once I started researching, the cheapest one I could find was $360 at riverwonders.com and they're always out of stock anyway. I quickly changed my mind about them and just settled on drooling over pics of them.
Gorgeous fish, but too bad they're not so easy to breed in captivity.

I heard they are also quite sensitive to water quality and need near perfect conditions all the time

And I thought the $200 pleco at aquarium adventure was expensive! They also had a $100 pleco and for the life of me can't remember what they were.....as soon as I saw the price I continued on:41:

I had no idea the price was so high for a zebra! I saw one in my local LFS in one of their display tanks but never really paid it much attention. I've gotta stop by this week and just ask about it... curiosity is killing me now!
