I had 2. Baby Oscars to start and long story short. They had fungus and ich and finally got better then one jumped out of the tank and died. Ever since then my one left has gotten really sick he sits on. The bottom and hasn't eaten in almost a week I'm thinkin he's depressed due to the loss of his mate but now I noticed he's only breathing with one side if his gills and it looks like he has an injury on the outside of his gill and his mouth looks crooked. Plus he's been freakin out and smashing around the tank and has cuts on his face and head and looks white in patches. I'm at a loss please help any suggestions welcome. Thnx

Is the tank cycled? How big is the tank? How long have you had the oscars and the tank?

If he's a year old, that tank is way, way too small for him and the lack of space is stressing him out.

My oscars are a year old and 11" long.I did start them in a 35 but they are now in a 135.They were just about 8" 4 months ago.
Oscars can grow almost an inch a month for almost the whole first year.
Lots of water changes and serious filtration is neccesary but so is space.

I know about the space thing I was thinking that that could be the reason they were going to go into the big tank which was about 80 g but when I kicked my ex out he took it along with the big fish we had
Here are a couple of pics of his self inflicted face smash up

40g isn't going to work man... Thats way to small for an oscar. He will barely be able to move.
Plus you'll need to do water changes every couple of days to keep ontop of the nitrates.
Speaking of which, in a 30g... do I dare ask what your parameters are?
Whats the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels at?
What do you have for filtration and how often do you do water changes??

What kind though??
You should buy a good liquid test kit. Api makes one, its not expensive, garaunteed your pet stores carry it. Dont use test strips!
And find out what your waters doing.

The #1 thing you can do to improve his health is to remove the 1yr + old oscar from a 30g tank.

You asked for help, because your baby oscar is suffering. So in order to do so, we really need specific details.
"3 filters" tells nothing, same with water changes if we dont know where your nitrogen cycle is.
And also, look on kijiji, find your self a used 55g tank at the very least so your pet can at least stretch his legs sort to speak.
Even new, they're not that expensive. Get one from walmart..
Anyways, good luck.

When my ex left he smashed the old tank in my apt its not a lack of funds for a bigger tank. Its a lack of a house to put it in since then my landlord is freaked out even over this one. After the other oner broke the ex and my landlord left both of them in a 10 g. Hf full of still water to die and if I hadve been 15 mins longer getting back in they prob wouldve been dead. I I will get a test kit and He is just on the first hour of salt for the cuts on his face. He still has no interest n food at all but he's been moving around a bit tonite. Ill update on his status tomorrow am. Time for bed now. Thanks so much sorry. I don't mean to be a bitch about suggestions I'm just gettin frustrated first his friend died and now he's so sick again.And. I can't seem to help him.

why would you recommend feeding goldfish to a oscar? there's a very good chance the oscar will get a more sick from eating goldfish.

That sucks, A dude who wrecks a pets life to try and piss you off sure shows how manly he is. I hate these guys....
But really, you have to agree you just admitted you cannot provide for your pets well being?
You know your oscar needs at least a 55g aquarium, at least, even that is not prefered since they get big enough when they're healthy that it becomes difficult to turn around and a 75g is ideal.
If you can't get a larger tank, especially since they're already so old... you really should consider rehoming him.
You have to understand, if you can't give them the environment they need... all you're doing is hurting them trying to make it work.
You know that is the answer right?
Edit- Can you persude your parents, or friends to get a bigger tank? If you really love your fish, maybe you can make it work if your landlord wont alow it and set something up else where?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news.
but your oscar is going to die a horrible and slow demise if you dont do something quick.
If you cant get a bigger tank, then rehome him. There are peeps out ther that would love to take a fully grown oscar off your hands... I get offers for mine every other day... But please do something. Even if you cant rehome, or get a bigger tank. Dont let him suffer that way. You wouldnt like it.
Its not your fault that this has happenned, it just seems to me that its an unfortunate sequence of events and a lack of options that done this, so dont feel bad.
If you were in my part of the world, ive got a tank that I would happily give you that would be perfect for him, doesnt really help though..
