As the title says, are they freshwater or brackish?

Great. I am going to check my LFS this week-end. I going to get some shrimp Amano or Cherry if they have them. If they don't I'm going to get some Ottos.

Careful with cherry. They are pretty small, and your Betta may make them into a $5 snack.

I have four amano shrimp in my freshwater tank, and they have been very shy and I rarely saw them, recently though, they have been less shy and can always be seen eating algae.

Be warned though, they eatalgae all the time so they poo all the time as well, I have to vacuum up a little pile of their poo every night when i come home.

Are they really that dirty?

Shrimp are not dirty unless you have a ton of them or an inordinate amount of algae for them to eat.

My problem is thatI have sand so the poo sits on top, unlike gravel so it looks worse.

My tank is basically algae free. So he comes out of his cave, and grbs flakes off the bottom of Shrimp Pellets( Nice eating his friends). They are cool to watch.
