:ssmile: Welcome to the AC! :ssmile:

silveleaf
08-04-2009, 09:46 PM
i have a 29 gal tank
1 neon Tetra
4 guppy
1 algee eater
1 big house
and some crystals
candice&jeff
08-04-2009, 09:49 PM
Your stocking sounds pretty good to me, although you might want to get 5 or 6 more tetras they like to be in schools.
Have you cycled your tank?
silveleaf
08-04-2009, 09:51 PM
what
Water parimeters
candice&jeff
08-04-2009, 09:55 PM
Have you read anything on cycling(nitrogen cycle) your tank?
Water parimeters are, Ammonia, Nitrates, and Nitrites.
Welcome post a thread in the right section and you will get help.

candice&jeff
08-04-2009, 10:09 PM
Ok thats good(you did use it every time you added water to the tank?), how long has the tank been set up? Have you done any water changes?
silveleaf
08-04-2009, 10:11 PM
i have had the tank for 2 days and the fish for one day
candice&jeff
08-04-2009, 10:12 PM
Is there any chance you can take the fish back until you get your tank cycled?
candice&jeff
08-04-2009, 10:12 PM
Or well you could keep them and do a cycle with fish. But don't buy anymore until your cycle is done!
candice&jeff
08-04-2009, 10:16 PM
Ok you'll need to get a master test kit. Also you'll need to be prepaired to do alot of water changes. Cycling can take anywhere from 1 to 3 months.

Read and do exactly what it says with your tank
candice&jeff
08-04-2009, 10:24 PM
Checkout the free ebook, and research online about it. Your tank is a small eco-system, you need to build up some bacteria to eat the ammonia, and nitrites, so they will be at stable levels and not harm your fish. This can take anywhere from 1 to 3 months. Once your tank has a constant reading of zero ammonia and zero nitrites your tank is cycled.
It is very hard on your fish, you'll need to keep these levels below .5ppm
If i'm wrong someone please correct me.

is spring water better then tap water
candice&jeff
08-04-2009, 10:48 PM
Your welcome! Please research, research, reaserch! Also I know it can be hard to resist getting another fish but please wait until you get your tank stable first. :-)

Welcome to the forum! I would give my two cents, but my two cents already seems to have been sold. Tap water and spring water are both fine, but tap is easier, because with tap you have easy access, and all you need to do to tap is dechlorinate it. I personally use API stress coat +.

is it easy better to use live Aquarium plants for your fish for clean water and for bacteria growth
Oscar_freak12321
08-04-2009, 11:18 PM
If you are looking for the low-tech planted tank, I am not the person to talk to. Of course, plants compete with algae for the nutrients that require both to grow, so that will reduce algae. Plants also help with breaking down...nitrites, I think. Anyways, if you're going just for the look, fake plants are easier to maintain, but the real ones have their perks too.

i need to know if it help with bacteria growth
candice&jeff
08-04-2009, 11:42 PM
I'm not sure if it will help with bacteria growth but I think it does help the tank. I think our tank seems to be doing better since we've planted it.
robflanker
08-04-2009, 11:44 PM
It will not help with bacteria growth.
Read the Ebook.
Is there a reason we are posting in like less than 10 word posts?

I find it hard to believe you are all the way cycled given your questions about it.
does anyone know about live aquarium plants with fish

Live plants and fish work great. Always have always will. Reason is fish and aquatic plants have been for ever since.
IME I have found that a nice combination between filter and planting you hardly have to do thing to your tanks, bare for a water change ever week.
As long as you keep the plants trimmed, and have the nutrients they need they help you with your tank.

I don't think he meant that he was completly cycled, he meant he has read the ebook. I've been in his shoes, it is a ton of info to take in all at once. He is here trying to get help to care for his new pets, please try to be nice. Here is a thread for you to read.

Just a side note silveleaf, it would help a lot if you typed somewhat normal. Saying you are one with the cycle, is a hard statement to understand. Almost sounds like you are yoda or someone.
You can short hand a little bit, but the 2-4 word per line post without really going into much detail is hard to help you with.
THe more details you can give us about what you know, and what is going on with your tank, the more help we can give you in return :22:

robflanker
08-05-2009, 09:30 PM
can you please post more than 6 words at a time?
and what on earth does "tank in balance" mean? or "one with the cycle"?
Yes, neons should be in a school. How long has your tank been cycled. What size tank?
My advice is to listen to rob, he is a bit loopy but knows his crap.
silveleaf
08-05-2009, 09:38 PM

So what are you water readings?
and at this point, what are your questions? what are we helping you with? you've asked so many random questions - im not sure where we are at right now
jackson17
08-05-2009, 09:47 PM
My guessing from day 3, new tank is that he is going to have a small ammonia spike by now if any, the fish are small and not many of them for that tank...I don't think he even has a test kit.
Do you have a test kit silve?
silveleaf
08-05-2009, 09:57 PM
no test kit im very new at this
all i had growing up was gold fish my cat ate
here to learn as much as i can
candice&jeff
08-05-2009, 10:07 PM
You need to get a test kit it is very important. Also wait until your tank is fully clcled before adding anymore fish. :ssmile:
On a side note:
Rob, I didn't mean to sound rude earlier, I just don't want to dicourage someone new to the hobby. :ssmile:
robflanker
08-05-2009, 10:14 PM
You need to go out and get a liquid test kit ASAP. I know you are new, we were all there but liquid test kit has to be first on your to get list. You need tests for pH ammonia nitrite nitrate
and Candice&Jeff - i didnt see anything rude, dont worry

whats better cropate store or privitely own store when buying fish
jackson17
08-05-2009, 10:53 PM
Please don't buy anymore fish until your tank is cycled...
And for that question, it depends on the fish quality of the store. Some people have crappy privite stores and good chain stores like petco, and then visa versa, or some people have both. By me, all my stores are pretty good.
Things to look for a good store:
No dead fish, good quality products, staff who know about their products and won't try to sell you stuff to make a sale
Don't what ever you do get any more fish. You are only into day 3 or 4 of a cycle by the sound of it.
The first thing you need to do is listen what the members of this forum are telling you!!!
Second is get a water testing kit. Then keep us informed on what happens.
mac
robflanker
08-05-2009, 10:58 PM
agreed with everyone else - do not get more fish
With the small amount of fish you have it lessons the amount of ammonia build up. And the more fish you have the more often it happens, an the bigger the spikes get, causing stress and death to the fish.
Your first step to keep a eye on things is a test kit. With out it you wont know what is going on. And we will be wasting our time helping you.

Silveleaf - i will no longer make contributions to this thread. Good luck with your tank and i wish you the best in your fish keeping
I agree with you Bushwacker. Although I can't see one thing Robflanker did wrong in the whole thread.
Now with regards to the link.
At times a bit of bluntness and just the occasional pointing things out, and putting in place, when the member is wandering not seeming to take any notice of what is being spoken to them.
So I like what William said on the whole. But at times it can be hard to implement.
mac
Let's be perfectly clear here, so please pardon my being blunt. No one on this forum has the right to call people out in the open forum except the Moderators. If someone has a problem or takes issue with a certain post or member it is up to the Mods to take care of it. Therefore, proper procedure would be to alert the Mods to the issue.
Calling out other members in the open forum is inappropriate. Now unfortunately this thread has gotten too far off topic and is being closed.
As an addendum, I did think about deleting the offending comments, but I seek to set an example of what NOT to do.
