I would look at other Malawi mbuna. What colors of fish do you want? If you want a red/blue/yellow combination you could get red zebras and cobalt blue zebras to go along with your labs.
Spend time going through the different profiles to figure out what you like and then post your preferences.

i found another fish that i like, a white calvus... i dont know if it would be compatable with labs or not, i am also not sure how big labs get. i read that white calvus get around six inches. is this true? i am a beginner so i dont want a really aggresive fish .

i recently got yellow labs and to go with them i currently have rusty cichlids. when theyre young their nothing special but they get beautiful as they grow a little (past say...2 or 3 inches). theyre very peaceful

The electric yellows, fire zebra's (orange) and electric blue mangano's are an attractive tank. Plus they are all fairly peaceful as african cichlids go. Just provide lots of rockwork to establish territories and you are all set. With these three you will get no cross breeding Plus if possible get 1-4 male/female ratio to spread the males attention out amongst the females.

That is a kenyi, possibly a hybrid kenyi. They are on the more aggressive side of mbuna.

Some commonly available species that work well with Labidochromis caeruleus are Psuedotropheus Acei , Iodotropheus sprengerae , and Metriaclima callainos. A Psuedotropheus demasoni colony is also an option with yellow labs. Sometimes Metriaclima estherae(red zebra) males will kill off the yellow lab males and take the females as their own. Alot of people have had luck with that mix , but for long term success I would personally advise against it.

I keep a single red zebra with my 2 yellow labs (among other mnubas) not sure of the sexes, but so far I have seen no signs of conflict.

I've got a 1 female yellow lab, 1 male kenyi, and 1 male fuelleborni. I recommend the fuelleborni for sure its a really nice looking fish with a different looking mouth than the rest. The yellow lab and fuelleborni have bred a few times also.
