Hi,

I've recently had to treat my tank with parasite clear for a parasite that seems to be spreading in my guppy tank, and the fish don't take to the medicated food. Right now I do not have any shrimp in the tank, but I am thinking of getting some cherry shrimp when things stabilize.

Does anyone know how long I should wait after two does/48 hours of parasite clear (contains praziquantel, metronidazole, and acriflavine), which is not safe for shrimp? I'll do the 25% water change between doses that the box recommends, and I have been doing frequent (daily or every other day) 25% water changes lately since one of my guppies has severely damaged fins (fighting). I'm also treating that with Melafix and Pimafix with salt.

I'm wondering if it would be safe after a total of 100% water change (ie, 25% over four days), or if it would take longer than that (maybe some of the treated water wouldn't be removed with the water changes necessarily?)

Thank you!

Hi,

Hope this is okay, but I just wanted to ask again if anyone has any ideas of the time it might take for a medication not safe for shrimp (see below) to work itself out of the tank water...that I could add shrimp to the tank again? I don't want to injure any shrimp but it would be great to add them to the guppy tank.

Thanks!

Was it the jungle brand parasite clear?

The reason I ask is because I just used this in out 10 gallon tank and our ghost shrimp are all fine it didn't affect them at all. We let the fizzy tab dissolve in a cup of tank water fisrt then added it.

I think that running carbon will remove the meds.

Thanks, yes it was Jungle brand Parasite Clear. I have carbon in for about a week...and have done 2-3 water changes...so maybe it's worth a try to get a shrimp now?

Thanks!
