Well, we moved all our community out of the 50g long below the 55g. Right now its a lone orange african. We have a blue kenyi that we will be moving out of the 55g with the oscar. So, that will leave the oscar all alone again, might get another pleco for there.

I know we could get more africans, just wondering how many? Not really a cichlid person myself. :hmm3grin2orange: And what other fish could be kept with africans. I'm leaning toward some jewels, convicts, or maybe a severum or jack dempsey, in addition to the other africans.

Bumpage!

Maybe a salvini would work.

African cichlids are best kept with other african cichlids, and more precisely, african cichilds of the same grouping (so mbuna's with mbuna's, etc).

You could probably stock 10-12 mbuna's in a 50gal if the tank length is approx 4ft.

convicts, severums, and dempseys are CA/SA and won't do well with africans... at least not in a 55 anyways. Kaybee is right, they gotta be kept with their own kind.
