I've had a 20G platty tank established for a while now. Currently it has 5 platties and a handful of random corys. It seems like every time I try to put mollies into the tank they die. I know that these fish should be find together but for some reason I just can't seem to keep the mollies alive more than a month or so, in most cases shorter than that.

All my water parameters seem to be within normal ranges and the tanks temp is at 76, although it's been warmer than that here lately so probably a little higher now.

Is there anything I can do to keep the mollies alive in this tank?

What are your perimeters? Mollies are pretty hardy, if you give them the water they like... If that even makes sense. Mollies want hard water, warm water, and water with at least a little salt... However, you can't add the salt because of the Corys.

I have 3 tanks with mollys and I don't have salt in any of them. I would up the temp a little... say to 78ish. How many are you trying to add at once? I've noticed mine seem to be happier in larger groups.

I have the tank heater setup at 76ish, although it's been a LOT warmer here lately so the tanks average about 80.

There is no salt in the tanks, as I didn't think it was required.

I know that mollies are said to be incredibly hearty fish but for the life of me I just can't seem to keep them alive. It always disappoints my wife because she likes really yellow mollies.

I'm not sure I can help but I can tell you that Molly and Platty will live together with the same parameters. I have a 29 with an equal mix of Molly and Platy and don't have any issues with them just dying. I do know they breed like crazy though!!!:ssmile: Do you have a QT setup so that you can put the Mollies in there first for a week or two? Just to make sure they are healthy. Hope you start to have good luck!!!
