Okay...I'm on Plan D...

Every tank/biotope I like seems to have too many issues for me to deal with efficiently...

I've liked the BGKs since I've first seen them...but can find very little 'official' info. on compatibility...just conflicting anecdotes...

Has anyone had one of these fish as the 'main' fish in their tank? If so, what other fish did you find were compatible...and I mean for an adult BGK...

That's good to know...

...what happened to yours?

When i sold all my tanks a few years ago he sadly had to go too. I miss him.

Too bad you had to give him up :(

...think I could keep a BGK in a 75g tank with:

1 Jack Dempsey
1 Green Terror
4-5 Silver Dollars

...and maybe something else on the bottom? No idea what that could be...

probably. Ghost knifes hide in caves and get along with most fish. The only thing is a cichid may fight him for territory.

I have always loved them to, but the size (up to 20inch) put me off

Arent BGK the ones that emit an electric current to "see" where things are because they are blind? If so, they will hide alot because they dont feel safe, so you can cut 6" long peices of clear pvc and they go in, and thing the are protected, but you can still see them.

i wondered that too drumachine. I think its another species of them that does the electric thing.

They grow quite slowly. Mine gained max 2 inches in 3 years. Theyre easy to take care of.

BKG are the ones that navigate with electric pulses.

Yea, i saw a bunch of those in an aquarium in Jenks, Oklahoma, and it said that they navigate with electronic current, and they had clear pvc so the fish thought they were hiding, but you could see them.

...yes, they emit a weak electric signal...so you shouldn't have too many in a small space...it drives them cuckoo!

...and yes...clear plastic tubing allows you to see them when they 'hide'...the LFS carries it...or alternately, you can lean a shingle of slate against the glass of your aquarium, allowing you to see them that way...

Everything I've read says that they are very personable once 'tame'...
