She's the only one out of my five platys that looks like this. Is she pregnant?

My Sunburst Platy had more bulk than that and a good bit of it was on her sides. Of course, she may be just a little pregnant. :hmm3grin2orange:

I'm sure someone who has had more than 1 pregnant platy will be along soon.

yes, the answer is nearly always yes with livebearers

Without watching that video I can fairly safely say yes.

If you have a small tank with no hiding places, you might not end up having them. :D

I have a 26 gallon planted tank. With plenty of hiding places. Time to start baby fish research

I'd have to agree with Algenco.

Livebearers ALWAYS seem to be in some stage of pregnant! My guppies throw out fry so fast that it almost seems impossible.

The only thing I have ever seen get pregnant more often is my sister, but that is a whole different set of issues...:hmm3grin2orange:

You will probably end up with a small number.

Depending on the other fish in the tank I'm expecting 5 or less.

This is one of the few times I reccomend worrying about the problem when it happens rather than in advance.

I didn't feed my platies anything special because I only noticed them a week after they were born! They had already been eating for A while by that time.

Livebearer fry are ready to hunt from a very early age as they mature inside their mothers.

If you have extra fish in the end, there is probably a pet store that will take them.

EDIT: LOL I just realized I said video instead of photo in my last post. Maybe I thought that reflection on the glass was a play button

So you don't think I need a breeder net or anything, just see what happens?

Well, it is up to you.

Do you want more platies?

How many do you want?

1-5 or 10-30?

Haha well I don't really want any more platies. So I guess I'm gonna go the no net route.

We started to catch our fry and place in a plastic breeder. One month ago there was one then 5 and now tonight there are 17 molly and platy fry in there. Not sure how many "disappeared". Now I guess another tank will be in the works. Oh how I hate to have another tank!!! LOL MTS is horrible disease. Going to move the whole breeder from the 29 gal to the 10 gal so we can release as they get big enough...Then onto something else...

It really is all in what you want to do as far as a net or anything else though.

MTS is bad xD. I would let them get eaten. And let the stronger ones survive they will turn out to be the healthier and better fish. I found sometimes if I saved them all there would be deformities. But when I stopped saving them I only had healthy fish cept one with a wierd spine. He stayed alive by hiding in a bunch of java moss till he grew up lol
