Hello everyone. I have a oscar a gt and a dempsey together in a tank and someone told me to be careful because their aggression will get worse when spawning!! I don't understand what they could spawn with they are different speices?? So here's my question can they cross breed and if so who would do it?? my oscar and dempsey do have a thing for each other. it's either that or they just equally hate my terror. they will hang out in caves together and swim around together but the terror can't come near them.

right now they are in a 40 gallon they are only like 1 1/2 inches will be transfered shortly. I hoped they wouldn't breed.

They won't breed... some females may lay eggs, but they'll be infertile....

They can certainly try! Not likely to result in anything more than a patch of infertile eggs and a lot of aggression , but try they might. I had a GT(male) and a salvini(female) pair and spawn numerous time. Once I even had some short lived fry, but nothing that lived very long. Even though the fish we keep are often different species , nature will often take it's course whether we like it or not. I'd just keep an eye on things and if they start causing trouble then divide the tank or remove one of the offenders when the time comes.
PS your gonna need WAYYYY more tank for that bunch.

pick jack Dempsey or GT. oscar is to small even alone.
all that keeping those in the same tank will bring is heartache (unless it's 150+)
