I joined up to be an expert on allexperts.com and now I am kicking myself! I have been answering 5 questions a day for the last month! I like helping people but some of these people should not be allowed to own fish. Mostly I blame all the LFS's for selling people fish that they can't keep. No pet store should sell ID sharks without finding out what size tank that person owns!

Well, enough of my ranting! I will try to divide my time, so I am here more. If I have to I will take a vacation from the other site. :)

what? i get on average 3 questions everyother day.

Some people genuinely have questions, like one had a dempsey who was 8 years old and a family member and was sick.

Others are just real dumb. " i have two breeding oscars in a 10g. Can i add 2 i.d sharks and a pleco?"

Is an ID an iridescent shark?

Yep. I regretted getting mine. He was nice to me and cool and all, but scared as hell. If i dropped a pen from 25 feet away he'd spaz.

I joined March 6th and I have had 32 questions. It's really been picking up this week.

It a type of catfish that looks like a shark, but gets 30 inches long and requires 200g's. They had a sale on at my lfs a while back, selling ID's 5 for $5. Who the H$LL has room for 5 ID Sharks!

My recommendation is that you reply with "[Only Registered Users Can See Links.] is your friend" to all those questions and see how long it is before they kick you off.

blackbeard (which is still weird, I am used to cocoa_pleco):
You would get more questions on all experts if you sign up as a Fish expert as well. You and I are currently just under the freshwater category. I don't know hwy they made two category's, when they are the same thing.

I got my first negative rating today :(

We have some auto response features, but I feel it's nice to actually answer every question.

Some one came on with the following question...
Question: I wanted to know if theres anyway to identify the sex between a male goldfish and a female goldfish. Also, What do i have to do to breed them? PLEASE HELP!

So I answered:

Answer: Here is a great site on how to spawn Goldfish, but unless you have lots of tanks or a pond, I wouldn't recommend it.
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

I guess I should have just sent the auto response that they should do some homework :)

Time for a shameless request. Why don't include a link to some page on this site if you get the chance (ie if it has good info on the subject). It will help the site more than you know, more than just telling whomever asked the question about it.

And sorry to hear about the negative rep. Really wasn't warranted.

That is a good idea William. A_M make sure to recommend people to AC!!! lol

I also am disappointed to hear you got a negative rep. Im sure you didnt deserve it.

I have this link to my signature in About.com and Angelfish.com but you spiked my curiosity in this experts forum. Are you saying that everyone who joins, joins as an expert? Is this the "Ask The Expert" answer and question site I have visited on occassion I wonder? I would be concerned with getting some very wrong answers if you asked an important question and got someone that actually didn't know all that much about fishkeeping.

Ask The Expert always lists their people as having either owned a fish store, currently own a fish store, have had years and years of fishkeeping and all seem very knowledgable so I wondered if this was the same site.

Edited to return: It is the same site!

Abbeys_Mom
03-29-2007, 12:11 PM
Yes, it is. Not everyone is approved.

P.S. I don't own my own fish store, but I do have 20 years of experience and practical knowledge of how to care for and breed most fish.

Oh gez, girl. I didn't mean you but meant if a brand new person who never had fish joined, would they be an expert? Guess not tho since you say they need approval. Whew. I was just wondering.
