55 gallon, heavily planted, CO2, canister filter and HOTB
I did a big water change last night, probably 75%. I took the water down that far to spray my plants with peroxide. Filled tank up and all was well. I get up this morning and here's a clown loach laying on her back on the top of my ludwigia. I picked her up in my fingers before I felt her move some. I found another in bad shape elsewhere in the tank. The other 3 loaches were fine as were all the fish in the tank. (A lot)
I forgot to turn the HOTB filter on after the water change but the canister was running. I do keep the outlet down lower in the water to prevent splashing, tho, so this may have been lack of oxygen especially since using the CO2. This is puzzling as peroxide adds oxygen to the water so even if I forgot the the filter, you'd think the oxygen would have been OK. Why only two loaches sick and no other fish panting, gasping, etc?
I added an air stone and removed the CO2 and they have perked up. The one I picked up with my fingers was more gone than alive and I'm happy she made it. She's my biggest loach.
