lost a tiger barb. found him in the loaches lair. fin eaten off and such....... the loach is a bit larger than the Tiger Barb. not bigger enough to eat him by any strech of the imagination.
is the loach the likely culprit or maybe he just drug him in there, after his death, for a snack?
it did not kill it. it just brought it there after it died.

i figured as much.
the barbs have developed a bit of a green sheen to their stripes....... a little fade in some of their colors...... the LFS said they are probly stressed a bit... sound right?
Sounds not to good. What are your water parameters? What size tank is it? And what is the stocking? Also what is your water change plan?

The barb died on it's own... clowns are simply scavengers and took advantage after the fact... check your params....

parameters are good. the LFS tested it and said i was fine... didn't ask specific numbers.
the tank is a 29, stocked per my sig. water change, once a week, about 30%........ i have only done one water change. the tank is fairly new.
Only one water change. So the tank has only been up and running a week. That will explain why your Tiger Barb died. IT got killed by the cycle in your tank.
First thing I would do would be to by a testing kit for your water, and keep testing every day and change water accordingly till the cycle is done.
Also I would return the Loach. They need schools, and will out grow your tank.

only one water change AFTER the cycle. sorry. one water change since i have GOTTEN the fish.
So how old is the tank? I would get a water testing kit ASAP. And check. Sounds like you may get more problems before to long.

tank has been up for about three and a half weeks. so i would say "still new".....
i work right next to the LFS, so i will take another sample in........ they do it for free and are very helpful. they have tested three samples for me thus far, and have been my lighthouse on water condition and when it was safe to add the first fish.
none of the other fish seem off in the least. had some color loss on a few barbs earlier this week, but no loss of action, or acting funny, or anything..... the barbs are all looking good, and the color has returned to the two which faded a bit.....
Sounds not that bad. I would just keep the water changes up every week.
And keep test.
