Hi. My question is how a basic person can calculate the age of a flat head catfish? If the catfish was 45 inches long. 26 inch girth right behind its head and infront of its fins and approximetley 42 pounds in weight.thank you

it would depend on where it came from ...warmer climates catfish grow faster than up north ...

the easiest way is to cut it in half and count the rings ....lol

I'm pretty sure fish grow quicker in the south. Cold climate leads to almost hiberation for many fish and they don't grow as well on a "year round" basis. I know bass are much bigger in the south for the simple fact that they have plenty of food year round.

Fish do grow much quicker in the warmer water, but they live much shorter lives.

Everything's bigger in Texas. True with the catfish. They get pretty dang big pretty dang fast.
