you better have some big loaches... I keep clowns with big frontosas and an arowana, but my clowns are not swallowable... oscars will "try" to eat them... Oscars will also outgrow your loaches quickly so buying them all small won't help. Best bet would be to grow-out loaches for 2 years untill they are 5 inches or so then add small oscars. Thats what I had to do.

If an Oscar can fit it in its mouth and it tastes good, its considered Yummy!lol
They will usually eat it when the time is right.

I agree try to get some large loaches, or grow some out for the purpose of being a large fishes tank mates

My 2 year old loaches aren't near 5 inches.

Mine are LH. Had them a year and a half and got them at just over an inch. Maybe it's my tank size or their diet?? I still think they grow too slow.... anyway, they are too big for even O's or my silver arowana to swallow now. They've bulked up quite nicely...

I would add an additional dither fish school if you are going to add clowns with an oscar.

I have actually had no problems with my loaches and oscar. Of course, I lucked out in my oscar being very passive....but I've found even still that the loaches are too fast for the oscar, and as long as the tank has enough hiding places, they should be fine.
