Stupid Question?

People have told me that Golden and Blue Gouramis are actually the same species, just a different color. Does this mean if you had, for example, a male blue and a female gold that they could spawn together successfully? Might be a stupid question, :lol:, and I'm not looking to breed fish, but still. I'm rather curious, and have found nothing to confirm they can or cannot anywhere else online.

That is what that means. They are all descended from the wild 3 spot gourami. They can and will breed together.

Yup, blue 3 spot gouramis and yellow gouramis are the same species and can interbreed although I'm not sure what the fry would look like.

There are other color variations becoming more available recently as well. I've seen some nice blue variants that were pale and dark blue, as well as a yellow gourmai that was almost orange. I've also heard rumors of a breeder who managed to get a yellow/blue striped pattern that breeds true but I haven't seen that one on the market yet.
