Here is my setup.

10 gal
PH 7.6
Ammo 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5ppm
1 Betta
2 Tiger Barbs
6 Neon Tetras
Planted with two bulbs and two root bits. Don't know the details. Bought them in blister packs at Wally World.

Do I need a bottom feeder? I am partial to goast shrimp and corys. Would these work?

You could get maybe 2-3 ghost shrimp and 2 or 3 albino cories, depending on how well mantained your tank is.

Thanks for the quick response. I setup this tank to see how I like fish keeping before I take the plunge on a 55 gal for the living room. By mid summer I will have more room for the Barbs. I was thinking 1 cory and a few of the shrimp. When I vacuum the bottom I don't get much food. I hope there will be enough.

I would do more cories. The shrimp dont do a whole lot, and their bioload is extremely small. The cories will help alot, and also have a pretty small bioload.

I agree with drumachine. Cories prefer groups, the larger the better. Minimum should be 3. For your 10 gal, go with the smaller species, such as panda or leopard cories; they grow to about 2" and 2.5", respectively. If you can find them, pygmy cories get too only about 1.5" or so. If you get these little guys, make sure you have alot of small hiding places so they, and your tetras, can hide from your tiger barbs.

Also, keep an eye out on your betta and tiger barbs. Tiger barbs get a bit nippy, and your betta's fins may be too good of a target for them to ignore.
