I was curious if there is a good type of shrimp to breed and raise for the sole purpose of feeding fish? Mainly my Angels and my EBJD, but I'm sure the other larger mollys would mind them. I have a couple small tanks around and I want to something with them. I thought maybe a small shrimp tank might be neat.
Thanks all!

Yes I have. I have a 2 gallon tank that I hatch those in for my fry and some of my smaller fish. They don't do much for the Angels and I don't think my EBJD even sees them... lol I figured something like shrimp would be a bit more meaty for them.

oh ya... I have a 5 gallon, a 2 gallon, and a couple sponge filters hanging around. Would those be big enough? Nothing else would go in with them.

Thanks!

You could feed ghost shrimp, or try and breed cherries for food. If you do that though, you could get more money selling them then feeding for the fish. The ghost shrimp aren't that good for the fish. You should look into frozen foods, much easier to take care of and cheaper in the long run. A 5 gallon is fine, just put some java moss in there, and they should breed for you.

I was looking at the Red Cherrys and was floored to see them between $4-5 There is an idea... shrimp for cash.

I don't want to feed them anything that isn't all that great for them. Something with a nutritional value at least. Ya I'm sure frozen would be cheaper and easier but where's the fun in that? lol

Honestly I'm just looking to do something small and shrimp seemed like a good idea since thats pretty much all that will fit in that 2 or 5 gallon. It will fit on my desk and thought it would be cool to watch them. Some breeding would get me some extra snacks for the big guys. From what I was reading it seems the Cherry are good active breeders. A good sized group, good water, and some plants and poof... a baby factory. I'm sure it isn't THAT simple but simple enough.

Would Cherrys be a better choice nutritionally?

It really depends what you feed them. You should feed them. what you want to feed your fish. The day your going to feed them to your fish, feed them a very nice sinking wafer. Or if you want your fish to get some veggies, feed them some nice veggies etc.

Ghost shrimp are very difficult to breed, so the cherries are a far better choice.
