Graphic contest: 50k pts

Hey guys!

Im here to ask a little favor, and offer a little reward

I need a banner/insignia for my new website; but as most of you know I have almost no graphic design skill.

The new website will still serve my purposes for the aqua-hobby stuff, but extend to canine stuff while I train to become a certified dog trainer :ssmile:


Im not looking for anything fancy, the logo must include a dog, and a fish and/or invertebrate. Real or cartoon, doesnt matter. Think simple, clean and friendly. No Text.

The one I choose gets 50,000 pts

Every serious entry submitted gets 10,000



I know this is an easy task for some of you, but its worth it to me because I would spend days!

okay I will give you some more guidelines :P

It must be professional! In other words Make it reflect my attitude towards the care of animals, not my personality :D

If you are good with graphics and it takes more than 5 minutes, you are trying too hard! Go write some species profiles! lol

I will give a few examples of things I would consider good entries...

Say..

A dog shape and a fish shape with a naturesk background

A dogs paw with a fish symbol inside of it

etc etc

anything like that, be creative but keep it simple.

I havent decided on the name yet, I will add a generated banner at a later time to complete the graphic. Thats why Ive asked for no text

The dog prints are supposed to be the fins of the fish. You said fish, with a small hint of dog.

Okay I'm too lazy to go to bed so I threw this together, I stole my vector danio school I did for the AC tshirt contest a million years ago, and drew a new gourami and the pawprint. I'm gonna add some shrimp to it but I figured I'd throw this out there for now. It was supposed to be two colors (black yellow) but for some reasont the outline saved as navy blue.. oh well, it works i guess, lol

I think Ive settled on a name. Bay Area Pet Services. Simple name, gives the room to expand I want.

So, you guys can include "BAPS" in your designs if you want.

I've got three more on the go but...I dunno. I need to know about you, your style, personality...I've tried reading your past threads but its like...hard to explain. It's a forum and most are questions and answers. Most people explain the same stuff over and over but with different words. Does that make any sense?

You said you are planning on a black background. Fair enough but, what other colors are you going to be using? Are you going to be including animation throughout the website? If so, is it going to be "cartoonish" or more....like CG animations....or...? Does it have to be 56k friendly?

What type of dog training are you doing? Agility? Schutzhund, general "puppy class" type, hunting, hearding, tracking, S&R, sight hound.....there are lots.

I hope I don't sound too nosey....But Im hooked on making these things! :D

Most of the text on the site will be in white or grey, blue links and blue headers

I want the site to look more professional than cartoony

I will probably mostly be working with aggressive dogs and "lost cause" cases especially early on

It doesnt need to be setup for 56k, but in all honesty if its an issue its probably just too big or you need a different format

Not really looking for any animation but if you feel it improves your piece im not discouraging it

Some things to keep in mind when designing a logo:

- Can it be printed in colour (well obviously!!!)
- Can it be printed in 2 colours? (ie: above can be done in orange and dark blue to reduce stationery printing costs: business cards, order slips etc.)
- Can it be printed in one colour? (ie plain black and white - newspaper ad?)
- Can it be cut from vinyl? (ie: car and shop windows stickers, metal cutouts)
- Can it be rearranged and made small enough to be printed on the side of a pen / pencil? This also gives and indication of how legible it will e from a distance...
- Does the symbol appeal to mass market? ie: more people will recognise a goldfish than, oh, let's say an angel or exotic species. If it was fish only, the symbol would be very different.

But most important - does the client like / love it. Regardless of what it looks like in the end, if the person / business using the logo loves it, that confidence will show in the marketplace. A very big factor IMO.

The goldfish was drawn and the dog was modified clipart. I redraw everything. You need to start with reference with any job, as an artist would, what's important is that you make it your own, and not a carbon copy!

Ok guys first off I have to say Im really impressed with all the entries, and the overall turnout. You guys all did great and I cant thank you enough!thumbs2:

That being said heres what I am thinking:

Im torn between a few entries.

Tweek and Wetpets designs make great insignias that dont take up much space (square). Wetpets is good for white background websites, tweeks for black.

In interest of using them both in the future, they both win and receive an extra 15k, and also receive their 10k for submitting.

As far as the header, I think the general consensus is Sark's header is excellent
so I'm gonna try out the black and grey backgrounds and see what looks best, but he is your other winner! He will receive the other portion of the winning pot and his 10k for submitting.

Every who submitted will receive 10k as a thanks for the effort, its much appreciated.
