The lights I have no say 18" but I wonder if 18.5" would fit... it would definitely give me better lighting than 20W per bulb...
What do you guys think?

No, that is a high output bulb that require a different ballast

I dont think so.
I'm pretty sure these are for UV skimmers/sterilizers that the SW folk use. Dont think its for like hood/canopy lighting
Have you looked into shop lighting?

A lot of people ask similar questions.
You cannot increase the wattage over what comes in those hoods, they are NO ( normal output) bulbs matched to an appropriate ballast.
To change to HO or VHO bulbs you must have the proper ballast.
Shop lights are the cheapest alternative, retro kits are available but aren't cheap
