Our anemone split a few days ago ( [Only Registered Users Can See Links.] ) and I'm pretty sure it wasn't due to stress because neither are wondering around the tank and are fully open. It has been suggested to me from the owner of our local reef club that I should set up a dedicated anemone tank and start propagating them for sale since their splitting can be exponential. Only problem is I don't have the room for another tank but its something I'd love to do.
What if I got a sufficient light for our refugium and used that as a place to propagate them? Our reef club is big on home propagation so its something I'd really like to do. I'd let it occur naturally, not cut them myself. I could easily move my chaeto to the skimmer chamber and drop a few more pieces of live rock and a power head into the refugium area. It would be a 12inx13inx10in area that could eaisly hold 2-3 small nems long enough to allow them to heal and sell. I'd keep the original in the display or else my clowns would kill me.
What do you think? Our tanks almost a year old and has been stable for a long time. Could thes work and is it a good idea. This way I don't have to set up an maintain a new tank and the nems would be in a very stable environment. If anything goes wrong (for example, one dies) I would just shut off the return pump and it would be separate from the display untill the problem is fixed.
Let me know what you think and feel free to make any suggestions
