Restarting a tank after many years. In the process of cycling. I have a 29 high which isn't the most condusive for many reasons, nevertheless, the tank I've had for a while. Looking to build my community but have forgotten a lot of specifics about who gets along with who, and want to have several "layers" of fish since it is 29 HIGH.

Located on a counter in the kitchen so that it can be seen from both sides (two rooms) so there is no "back" side.

Also - my PH is high - 8.2 or so, and the hardness is over 200. (I forget the exact reading - I tested at lunch today) I added a few neons yesterday to begin cycling. Now what?

Hi
The high pH and hardness is a problem for many community fish species and is to high to be ideal for neons. The most suitable fish for that pH would be livebearers or to setup a community tank inhabited by different african malawi or tanganyika cichlids. Which are wonderful fish btw.

If you would like to keep common community fish it is best to try and lower pH and hardness first.
