I am planning to get a single male Dwarf Gourami (just the regular kind, not a color variant) for my 10g community tank, and I was wondering if anyone has every experienced aggression from these guys towards other, non gourami fish? Everything I've read so far suggests that they are only territorial against other gouramies (in particular male-male), but my water seem to have some kind of chemical that increases aggression so I wanted to double check before getting one ;)

We have three dwarf flame gouramis in our tank and have never seen them go at anyone but themselves.

Awesome! As a side note, the reason I ask is because my 5 cardinal tetras are constantly chasing each other around and are very territorial. Recently, my SAE decided he would join in on the fun as well. Maybe I just need a bigger tank *sigh*

Yeah, but then I'd have to buy a new light fixture + filter + another bag of Flourite, lol. Besides, I like small tanks and may take this with me on campus next semester.

Well I finally got one! :D
The guy paced back and forth at the front pane of glass for about 4 hours before finally deciding to go exploring in the rest of the tank. My molly fry are all a little unsure of what to make of this new lumbering "giant" and stay far far away, lol. Already eating from my hands too! I thought they were supposed to be really shy for the first few days?

My Dwarf gouramis are wussies. They spend most of there time hiding in the plants and they are the biggest fish in the tank (other then the bottom feeders, who also hide). Makes me want to back to cichlids. Heck, my Betta is more interesting...

I've got kind of the opposite problem ;)
I WISH my cardinals would act more like wusses and hide/school instead of having my tank carved up into more territories than Brooklyn. I'm somewhat concerned that the gourami is going to turn aggressive in a few days as well lol.

The only fish my gourami's bothered were their own species. And then no injuries but the chasing about.

I finally got a couple of fishes for my newly cycled tank. One powder blue and a fire red. They're exploring now and my 3 guppies are really curious.

I've got a mega aggresive dwarf guarami male, i've had to put him in isolation cos he constantly harrasses the female guaramis. He used to attack my firemouths when they were in that tank too. Does anyone know if he would hurt the females, am i being over cautious taking him out? I don't know wether to risk putting him back in or trade him.

Alright you gourami people---- how do you know if it's male or female?
Turn on the tv and see who watches the game??

I liked the dwarfs I had. Unfortunately none of them were able to take any type of toxins even at a very small level and I lost them. I may break down and get a few more once my 29 is empty. They like to bump each other but never do any harm.
