Today, i got a 5.5g tank. I am planning to make it a tank full of stacked slate, and want to use a UGF. Theres one on eBay for 2$ plus 3$ shipping. Would powerheads for a 10g be too strong for a 5.5g?

What are you planning on putting in there? I woudl not use UGF for any tank. I would just use a HOB. UGF is the last thing I will ever use again. They practically guarantee that you will end up with nitrate problems from gunk under the plate, not to mention that they require more maintenance than almost any other filter.

i remember someone on a old forum told me that if you want to put rocks in you need a UGF. As for what im puting in there, im not sure yet. Im considering geting a baby red zebra, keeping it in there for a few months, then transferring it to a 29g.

You don't need UGF for any setup. In that small of a tank somethign like a Whisper 20 or other HOB will be fine at keeping flow through the whole tank. In a larger tank with lots of rockwork you may need powerheads to keep flow through all the rockwork, but no tank needs UGF.

thanks.
I'll skip it then. Makes sense that a large tank needs a ugf for alot of rocks.

No tank needs UGF. A large tank with a lot of rockwork may need powerheads to keep flow through the whole tank, but not UGF, just the powerheads for flow.
