Mostly. Oscars like and prefer a bit more of a natural diet, consisting of meaty foods and pellets made for oscars. One brand I like to give to my oscar is called oscar show, and my oscar loves those pellets. I wouldn't be surprised that it doesn't like flakes.

Hmm...well I've never heard it being fed to oscars before, but I guess it's good for their system...It is normal for an oscar to be a finicky eater for maybe the first week or so, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

My oscar used to eat the lettuce that I put in for my silver dollars when they were in together, it certainly won't hurt him anyways, LOL.

I don't think they like flakes either, my oscar doesn't and my sisters oscar doesn't either. Think they like something with a little more "substance". I usually feed mine NLS, but at the moment it's a mix of NLS and Hikari bio Gold plus (or Hikari Gold something like that) as they had run out of NLS and he was HUNGRY! He seems to like the food that floats better than the sinking stuff, but then I don't if that's just because he can take his time to eat it as the other fish are bottom feeders and he has to compete if they are sinking LOL. He eats both the floating and sinking with gusto (actually everything, apart from the flakes which he turned his nose up at, he eats with gusto, LOL, rice bubbles, cornflakes, sausages etc, all stuff that my kids have chucked in the tank, he makes a dive for and eats as much as he can!)
