Do silver dollars eat black beard algae?

I have a small case of black beard algae. I was told that american flag fish would do the trick. I went to the pet shop and the guy told me they wouldn't agree with the fish I have. He said he had black bread algae before and that the silver dollars took care of the algae. Just asking if anyone out here agrees with the pet shop guy.

Your better off getting an SAE or bn pleco!

Some larger fish will nibble at it, but True SAE are the only guys you can depend on to really get the job done

What do you mean by he doesnt agree with the fish you have in the tank?

I think the main thing with flagfish is you only want 1 male if any. Dont quote me though, they are a interesting looking fish but I dont know much about them.

None of them will erradicate or even stay ahead of bba if it has a foothold.The sae will keep it from coming back if you get them before it appears.

my bn chew on it i dont know how much good they do. but i have several large sae in there too and the tops of my rocks are gettin cleared off

My rosey barbs and otos are the best algae cleaners in the 55G....the rosies have put an end to filament and beard algae.
