so there was already a thread started on the fight between the WWE has been and Frank Mir. What do you guys think about the more intriguing matchup (in my opinion) between George St, Pierre and Thiago Alves?
i have a general dislike for all things Canadian, (i am kidding!!!!), but i love GSP, in this matchup, (and any short of one against Anderson Silva). alot has been out of how big thiago is, but George train with a couple of guys who are pretty darn big compared to George. lets see: David Louiseau (sp?), who once missed weight at 185; the former light heavyweight champ in Rashad Evans; and Patrick Cote, who has also fought up to light heavy weight. i think this is the one fight where Gsp might not be the better striker...but his is still the better MMA fighter. Gsp outwrestled Matt Hughes (twice), and own two BJJ black belts on the ground (Matt Serra and B.J. Penn), and is rumored to out-wrestle the previously mentioned Rashad Evans, and the Canadian Olympic wrestling team. i really dont see Thiago being a pro'lem on the ground.
Thiago is an awesome striker. maybe the best of anyone not name Silva. but the i think the rest of his game is just good enough to keep the fight on the feet where Thiago wants to be. Does he have the gas to go five rounds? GSP has only been taken past three rounds twice, once against Jon Fitch, (who refused to go down) and once into the fourth against B.J. Penn, (GSP looked mre than capable of going a 5th). i admit that i havent been a fan since he popped positive, but he has been on a tear recently. but i think his wrestling and BJJ are not good enough to keep him from getting ground and pounded to a TKO loss inside of 4 rounds.
