Recently upgraded my gold-colored gourami to a twenty gallon tank, as he's grown another inch since I bought him. :ssuprised:

A few questions:
- Will this size tank be able to house it if he lives to full-size?
- Is there room for other fish?
- What kind of stocking plan would you recommend? (that won't grow out of the tank.)

Thank you in advance for the help.

the "gold" gourami you mention is a derivative of the 3-spot gourami. they will grow to 4 inches. if the 20gal is the biggest you can go,i would a school of 6 smaller tetra or rasbora.

tetra-pristella or x-ray,glow light,head and tail light

rasbora-brilliant,harliquin,red tail

avoid neon or cardinal tetras and pygmy/dwarf rasbora -they are to small.

I agree - the gourami gets a decent size, and if the tank is crowded it'll look to defend territory. A group of smaller fish is the way to go, and I would choose a fish that occupies the whole tank, or at least the middle.
