i am a teacher at a private school. the govenor has already frozen all teachers' pay in the entire state. i got a letter from work last week that started with "as you know the school is in financial crisis...". all staff need to go to a meeting today at 3 to discuss how the financial crisis will affect us. everybody is worried that it is a meeting to announce layoffs.

they will all have to find another school. there is a chance the school will be saved, and if it is they said they will rehire us, but we will not know until august, and that is quite a gamble.

Sorry to hear about this.

My advice would be to start looking ASAP, beat the other 200 to the 10 or so jobs they will all be pulling for soon. Other than that I dont have anything to add except good luck! Teachers already dont get paid enough for the education they bring, they shouldnt have to worry about keeping a job.

no, i would not want my child's education to be in limbo like that either, but most of the kids are there because the school is designed towards their specific needs. if the school is to be saved, it may be due to help from parents and alumni. i am crossing my fingers; there is still hope. i still have to get my resume out there, but at least there is a chance to be rehired if things work out.

okay, im headed out for some striper fishing; a nice 30-lber would be quite a few dinners i would not have to be buying on my crappy unemployment check
