Hello All. I'm a long time aquarist who's been out of the hobby for about a decade.

I started out as a kid. My father set up a 20 high in my bedroom and I kept guppies and assorted bottom feeders (don't ask me what, I couldn't possibly remember that far back). I also have a glimmer of memory of my father's massive fish tank when I was extremely young.

I moved on to angels as I got older, and then became infatuated with discus. I worked for a couple years at a LFS called PJ's Pet Center. I managed to buy a 55 with my discount, but I've been wishing I got a 75 or larger ever since. Isn't that always the way, though?

I first set up my 55 in my apartment at the time. I moved a school of harlequin rasboras and a school of rummy nose from my 10 to my 55. After cycling (with a little help from the 10) and a few months of maturing, I got 4 Red Dragon discus. They started out at about 2.5''. After 8 months, we moved, and I had to break down and move the tank. All my fish came with me. I proceeded to move the tank and fish two more times before they settled in my house. 6 months later, we got wall to wall carpeting installed and I had to break it down again. This time I had to return my discus, now about 4.5'', to the LFS. I thought it would be down temporarily, I just never expected temporarily would mean a decade!

I'm starting off by setting up a 10 in my bedroom. As we get closer to the warmer weather, I'll get the 55 cleaned out and running, and I'll look into discus on mail order.

Nice to meet you, I also started as a kid, then got out of the hobby, and just started up again in the last year.

Welcome! I agree with the above post, the 10g will only be a teaser (I bet the 55g gets set-up sooner than you think!)

Thanks for all the welcomes, much appreciated.

You're not kidding about the 10 being a teaser. I really want to get the 55 up asap.

I got a few rasboras and a couple ghost shrimp for the 10 yesterday, along with some live plants, and as I was adding them, my Aquaclear 50 impeller stopped. I managed to get it going again, but it stopped a couple more times last night. I thought about going down to the basement and getting my old Aquaclear 200 out, but I don't want to turn the tank into a whirlpool!

Looking at my wrought iron stand for my 55 last night, I really need to sand it down and repaint it. The 55 tank is a mess to, with whitish deposits all over the glass, gonna have to do some serious cleaning.
