When I am just replacing evaporated water, or when doing a partial water change, should I dose the whole tank with water conditioner, or only use enough for what I replaced?
I have been just doing the amount for the whole 10 gallons. Will this hurt the fish? I have a python, is it OK to add dechlor. before I add water, or during adding the water?
Using Tetra Aquasafe.

the advice i was given was treat the water you are putting in and i have stuck with that. no problems. fish are all happy and seem healthy. cant help you on the python...dont own one yet.

I always dose for the water being replaced when I use the bucket method on the small tanks.
When using the python on the big tanks, I turn off the filters when refilling and dose for the whole tank just before I put the water in.

I do the same.

No I think it's pretty common for people to overdose on it. Some people do it on purpose. I usually put in twice as much conditioner in than recommended just because San Diego tap water is very hard and tastes like chorline. I have never heard of too much conditioner being a problem, just don't dump the whole bottle in:hmm3grin2orange: .

I usually put slightly more in than the bottle says to put... I would put the conditioner in before you add the water.. unless you have your water in a bucket.. then add it to the bucket... I would only put in enough to dechlorinate what you have to put in.. not the whole tank.

I have been dosing for the whole tank since I got my tanks about 6 months ago. When I use my python I usually put it in before I put water in. I sometimes forget until I already have some untreated water in it, so just wondering if that would hurt them to do it then. I mean, it hasn't yet, so I just have to remember to dose the tank before I do anything!

It won't hurt if you don't put the dechlor in immediately.. but I would put it in as soon as possible.
I would say dosing for the entire tank everytime you do a waterchange is probably not needed.. wasn't there a post on this forum earlier about someone who put way too much dechlor in and it made the PH take a dive?
