I think its a bit funny that they actually belive they could be erradicated once they have been established,or even controlled for that matter.Carp are easily shot with a bow and arrow and are considered a nusiance fish and there has never been any luck in thinning them out much less getting rid of them. The toothpaste is out of the tube, they may as well go back to letting them be kept in aquaria again. They look like fun to catch, with luck they will be in a river near me soon:18:

they will never get rid of them from there. i have a feeling those guys realize that as well, but they do not want to appear to be supporting it. they are smart to take advantage because it seems like within several years the fish take over, and they will be the only guide service targeting them, and when others join in, they can say they have been doing it the longest.
i want to catch one.

It is true that they won't get rid of them but luckily so far they have had a lot less impact than expected. There is an article about that in the news section.

i will be sure to read it. i am very interested in this topic in particular, because they have been found in waters very close to where i live.
actually, i do not see the article there...

Thats not the News article I was talking about but I can't find the one I was talking about either. Perhaps I wrote it but somehow never posted it. Will see if I can find it on my harddrive.

What gets me is all the ruckus over snakeheads being a non-native species, when most of the game fish from rainbow trout to largemouth bass were introduced from other places as well. Sure, the snakeheads are going to become an established part of the food chain, but that doesn't mean they're going to eliminate any other species in the process.

where snakeheads are introduced, they tend to be the biggest most aggressive predator in the area. so their populations explode, then the problems start...
If they come to my area, I will be sure to bow fish for them :)

I wonder how they would do up here in our waters?
Would the winters affect them?
Would the pike ,bass,walleye,muskie... population thin out the juvies enough to stop any growth explosions or would the mature SHs make mince meat out of our fish in a year or two.
SHs are definately not part of their regular diet.

i heard some years ago, that the first intros of snakeheads were the great lakes. dont know if that is true, but i believe the muskies and what not inhabit that area.

I would love to catch one but I doubt they could live the winters.

They are very tough hardy fish!
I would not be surprised!

northern snakeheads have been found where i am, and we have pretty cold winters and solid ice-overs, 16 inches of ice last winter. that is the only type that can survive it though, the northern snakeheads.
i think they would make for some great bowfishing, because they like to be in shallow coves
