Ok, as most of you know, I rescued an Oscar (now called "Aussy") and his friend, a Convict (Stripes.) They are in my 42g tank.
[noone yell at me :11: I'm trying to give them the best life possible]
At the moment, Aussy is about the size of my entire hand - around 5.5". Hes definately getting bigger !!!
I'm thinking about a future tank for these 2.
Not definate at the moment, but I would like to start planning anyway, you guys know I can't resist even thinking about MTS ! :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:
What would be a good size tank for my 2 ?

Well.. how much can you spend and handle lol
I would go for a 75g for starters. But if you have the room, giver and go for 125 :D Give them lots of room!
You could get away with a 50 I'm sure, but if you're going to get them something you might as well do it right.
Curious, how often do you have to water change that small thank lol

Just had a look on eBay at one of my favourite tank-sellers:
6ftx18"x18" = 100g (385L roughly) = $125
Brand new with lid.
I like it. Hopefully, mum & dad will too. Haha :11:
Do you guys think this would be a good tank size for my 2 ?
As in good, I mean, really good ? Are the dimensions ok, or should I look for another one with different dimensions ?

That sounds a little less than 100g from the dimensions?
But regardless, I think that would be nice for them! Gives the oscar room to turn around, and being so long they can both have their own territories away from one another.
Sounds good!
Who's this seller?? Thats a wicked low price, are they reputable? Do you have a link? I'm on the market for a bigger tank my self.

Heres the link, but as its located in Brisbane, you'd have to fly over from Canada to pick one up LOL

Really good quality tanks. Have had my 42g (bougth off him!) for a year & 1/2 now - no problems whatso-ever!
Awsome then :-) Lordy, that was quicker then I expected! Haha
Already have a tank I like sorted out for them :]
Do you think any otehr fish could comfortably go in with them in a tank that big? I am thinking my dad would be more enthusiastic if we could get a new fish too lol.

Perfect sized tank actually...6ft length and a nice 18" width will provide a good home for your oscar and convict. I would also go so far as to say you could add another fish or two if you had good filtration and WCs. :22:

Awesome!
Not really keen-keen for anotehr fish, I'd be afraid to wreck the harmony between my little duo! lol, but if it helps my cause and gets them the tank, I'll do it. LOL.
Mum seems pretty 'whatever' about it, so I'll save up my mula and see what happens - thanks guys !

LOL! It'll probably be a while yet - I don't have a job yet, so my money is just 2 bucks and 3 bucks from doing little chores around the house. Haha :)
I'm kind of scared actually! 6ft feels so... BIG !!!!!!

Yeah its a big step from smaller tanks. But fear will be replaced with "ooooo's" and "ah's" when its all said and done.
Try to save up quickly. An oscar in a healthy environment and with high quality food can grow about an inch a month.

Yup, will do. Hopefully my dad will help me with a stand for the tank - I might ask him to build one for me if he has the time...
6ft... Crikeys - 0_o
I can't get over it LOL. I'll have to find some nice pieces of driftwood for it !
I've been thinking about my final stock in a 100g, because it would help my cause if I was able to get another fish in there LOL
AND to soften up my mum, I'm considering a.... Pleco (My mums fav.fish)
Do you guys think that would be pushing it in a 100g?
chronic

Nah, I think that would be fine. I'm pushing it with my 100g of water with two oscars a JD and pleco.
But as long as you stay on top of water changes, set up a good filtration system you'll be fine!
Just make sure the new pleco is a good size so he can defend him self and not get eaten.

Oh yup, Aussy has the biggest mouth :O
Cool, well, thats the stock organised.
Aussy, Stripes && a Pleco :)))
For filteration.
I think I will go with AquaFX SPR-1800 (1800L/P/H) Internal Powerhead. That will turn the tanks volume around nearly 5times. Not enough. So I may end up getting 2+
I love the AquaFX's filters, an awsome brand, great quality :)
Good luck with the oscars!

Talked to dad last night when he was a bit tipsy (was NOT my plan LOL :hmm3grin2orange: )
Told him about the tank I wanted, in hopes of striking a deal.
Well, it ended up with saying he may buy the whole tank and organise a stand if *I* bought all the media/filters/etc. The condition was that it would be *his* tank and when I left the house, it would stay with him. I was quite ready to disagree to that and pay for the whole damn thing myself, when he told me that we might make a compromise later... I agreed. Like he would do all the weekly work if I left the tank in HIS care! Hahaha. I've won. Yay!
So anyway, he also changed the tank specs. We decided 6ftx2ftx2ft was better then 6ftx18"x18". LOL.
Of course, he was a bit tipsy, so I'll talk to him tonight about it again, just to make everything clear. Hahahaha :)
6x2x2ft - thats 180g.... I'm getting REALLY scared now LOL :11:

Ok, good news, cleared the air wih my dad when he wasn't tipsy (LOL) and yes, hes agreed to buy the tank & organise a stand if I take care of the rest (Filter, fish, etc)
AND! We will be going with the 180g, if we can get this guy to make a custom-built tank :D If not, we'll settle for the 100g.
I have my fingers crossed for the 180g... <squeals>
Oh gawd, so happy at the moment!
