Just wondering what people may or may not know on the effects of feeding fish fruit. What might that mean for their diet and health. Also, what would happen if said fruit were soaked in vodka or something. I'm having a drunken melon at the moment and was wondering what that would do to my swordtails. I know, strange idea.

Some fish will nip at fruit but very few will eat them, they will eat veggies.
Alcohol is poison...

Well, alcohol in the tank will kill the fish.
As for regular watermelon, I think it may fall apart quickly like most fruits but veggies are great for fish. De seed any fruits. Probably best to avoid high citrus fruits too but thats just speculation on my part.
i wonder how a drunk fish would act

Yeah its really not a good idea to get your fish drunk or high or anything else. It will kill them. Thats not really so fun to watch.
I know it would kill them i was just thinking from a comical stand point. so literal guys...geesh:ssmile:

I made the mistake long ago of putting a fish tank in a bar!
Fish tend to act real dead when any alcohol is in the mix!

I've seen documentary videos of fish that were high on marijuana, and I gotta say it was very funny and the fish didn't die. They swam funny for a couple hours and then were back to normal. They made the fish food with the oil, and since it is not water soliable it floats on the surface and can be skimmed off.

But, the fishes brain isnt really complex enough to "feel" it or enjoy the effects, etc
Its just effecting them physically i would assume
Also, when you consume marijuana orally it acts (and feels) a lot more like poison because thats how its "intended" to enter your system in nature and its purpose is to protect the marijuana plants from animals that are attracted by the smell. Im honestly not surprised the fish were all okay, but its still not good for them, and its not like you are curing their boredom or something:hmm3grin2orange:
But thats what happens, deer comes along, eats a bunch, trips all day and never goes near that type of plant again. If its a buck, he will keep the herd away from it. Its stressful for animals to consume, because nature has designed it to be.

I'm not trying to say it's good for them, but I have to disagree with the poison point of view. What about it is poisonous? The active component certainly is not - the chemical does not behave in that way. Poisons all work in the same way - they break down tissue.
The purpose of the documentary was to prove that there is no lethal dose of marijuanna - fish were just one of the many examples.
I will agree that consuming it is very different :)

LOL well IMO The fact that there isnt one case of death by marijuana in the world literature is more convincing than giving fish marijuana and them living.
But my point and only point is, marijuana and other mildy toxic plants are that way to protect themselves against wildlife. The effects are not pleasant for them when they ingest the marijuana. Anything else related to marijuana though should probably be discussed elsewhere since there are kids on the forum. pm me if you want, im impossible to offend :hmm3grin2orange:
