welcome to ac.
it depends on the type of pleco as to how big they get. some are small and some get big. i'd say do some research and find one that will fit what you want and can do as far as tank size. btw, clown plecos stay small and i have 2 of them. they are a little shy but do some things that make them earn their names, clowns.

you should be able to do some neat stuff with a 30 gal tank. just keep up with the general maintenance and you can have it for years.

Welcome to AC! I agree with sergo, some plecos get up to 2 feet! I believe some of the more fancy varieties stay smaller.

Welcome to A/C.

I have a 30 gallon setup with a common Pleco in there.
He is getting big, about 7 inches right now, but he has been there nearly a year with no problems.
I keep him with 6 tetra, a rainbow shark, and 2 swordtails.

Just do some research as others have posted here and find out exactly what kind of Pleco you are talking about.
Good luck!

Welcome to the AC

Here's a link to a Loach community, whihc can probably give you more info. then you ever wanted:

[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

We looked into getting some clown loaches, for our 46g planted tank, but decided that they would eventually get too large and might wreck havic on our plants. Thus, we decided on 5 Yoyo loaches (which stay smaller, 4-6in), and they've been a great addition!

Have fun stocking your tank.
