Earlier this morning my two goldfish were playing in the bubbles from the filter.

They are on day 2 of a melafix treatment to repair caprica's damaged fins, and about a week ago I treated the tank with the Jungle anti fungus tablets to kill the fin rot. I did a 25% water change after 4 days of letting the tablet water sit in the tank, and then waited 2 days to add the first dose of melafix.

Now they're not playing much at all, rather just sitting on the bottom of the tank. My T5 10k lighting system is on, could that have something to do with it?

They aren't breathing fast - actually they are breathing quite slowly. The filter is also causing a lot of surface agitation, which my two goldfish seem to enjoy most of the time.

No ammonia, no nitrites, and nitrates are within norms.

Here is a picture of all 3 of my fish in the 29 gallon just sitting together. Still looking for a home for the pleco though.

well the one to the left doesn't look good, I would keep an eye on him, maybe do a W/C? Sorry I don't have much advice.

Yeah that is caprica, he is still sick from the 10 gallon cycling. He has looked that way for about his month, and at one point his dorsal fin was gone. During the past week in this tank though, his fins are definitely growing back and he is gaining some weight - so he might make it.

He is my last fish alive that I had while I was at school, and I really really hope he pulls through so he can come back with me in the fall!

It is also 85 degrees room temperature in the living room, so they tank may be a little warm for them.

Goldfish are fine to warm, they can handle it for extended periods of time.

are you running an airstone when using meds? melafix/pimafix will reduce your oxygen levels during use. could be why they are acting so lethargic.

No airstone, but the filter is creating a lot of surface agitation.. enough that the bubbles go down about 6" into the water and you can hear it from down the hall.

Now caprica is playing in the bubbles again. He likes to spin around in them and its quite funny to watch. I might have to get a video of it. Gaius2 is still bobbing around the surface of the sand though.

I have found some fish do not take to Melafix well. My one female platy would clamp her fins and hide every time I treated with Melafix. The rest of the fish never seemed to care but every time she would clamp her fins and hide for an hour or so. Eventually, she would start swimming around again and act normal. I never noticed any problems related to it, just that she hated Melafix.

The stuff has a pungent smell so perhaps it just smells "wrong" to them?

Ah, that does sound quite likely. Oh well... I think they will just have to endure it. They don't really look upset, just really mellow, so I guess I'll keep treating with melafix. I want those fins to heal up so that caprica has a better chance of surviving.
