:19: What is the purpose of it I know its to make the water hard and like raise the ph anything else that it does? And would it harm my guppys/gourami I might want to get some mystery snails just because they kinda look neat but I need to make sure its safe for my fishthumbs2:

There are a couple of other benefits to it. The additional calcium carbonate in the water is helpful for snails and building their shells, furthermore, plants use it to a certain extent, and some more than others.

The only harm will be if you add too much too quickly. Adding too much too fast will cause the pH to rise a little too fast and could kill them. I would add it a little at a time. The hard water will actually be good for them. Guppies seem to do quite well in water that has a ph around 7.6-7.8 and is hard.

That would greatly depend on the current hardness of your water and the current pH. The lower the current KH, the less you would add.

I had my shellies in a 29, I did two big scoops of crushed coral a day, and it raised it at a safe level.
